No… it’s not what you might be thinking…
This critter site on the southwest coast derived its rather cheeky name because it was discovered on the last day of one of Burt Jones & Maureen Shimlock’s exploratory trips to Batanta.
They had tried to dive one of the other sites along the coast but were unable to do so because of bad weather – so they tried this bay instead.
What they stumbled on was an excellent variety of critters and christened the site Happy Ending because it wound up the trip very nicely!
Like Black Beauty it has the shelter that critters like, plus the essential ingredients of a small river with its organic nutrients and exposure to the cold waters of the Pitt Strait.
It also has sloping black sand and means that good buoyancy control is essential.
